Embracing Your Core Values
Gaining clarity is an essential part of building a life of joy. Understanding your core values is the first step in doing so. Your values guide your life and when they’re challenged, you feel “off” and maybe a bit untethered.

The Beauty of Asking for Help
This year, more than ever, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty in asking for help. Long a perfectionist and frugal DIYer, asking for help could sometimes feel like failure. For most of my life I thought that if I didn’t do things myself, they’d either be done wrong or I'd lose control of the process. Therefore, it was always, always, better to do it myself. Until it wasn’t.

Hygge as Self-Care
It’s not all sunshine and roses over here, far from it, but my hygge habits allow me to control small parts of my daily life. For me, it’s when I feel that I have no control over anything that I have the most difficult time. Finding pockets of hygge and joy through the days and the seasons helps tremendously.

Permission To Take Care of You Too
Things are changing quickly, even a year into the pandemic. There is so much to do and so many decisions to make. It’s OK if you feel like you don’t know how to do this, no one does. Give yourself some credit for all of the extra emotional labor you have been doing. Care for yourself with as much love and kindness as you care for others.

Self-care Isn’t Selfish
Self-care isn't selfish, it's necessary. Taking care of yourself actually makes you more compassionate and allows you to be more helpful because you aren't depleted of mental and physical energy. Simple things done with intention can make a big difference. It's OK to take care of you too!

I’ve long struggled with fun. I associated being responsible with being in control and fun seemed like a loss of control. The more responsible I felt I needed to be, the less fun I allowed until I realized that I did nothing but work.

I’ll Be Happy When…
Do you find yourself saying “I’ll be happy when I get that promotion, buy a new car, lose 20 pounds, etc.”? What happens when you achieve your goal? Chasing external validation or success defined by others is a constantly moving goal post.

Joy Amid Challenges
We can all agree that these last 10 1/2 months since the WHO declared this pandemic have been difficult. So, if I’m telling you that joy is within you and unshakeable, where is it here? If you are working to uncover yours, how do you do so? The answer is to start with small steps.

Defining Joy
Does your version of joy depend on what is happening around you or is it something you can access regardless of your circumstances?

Handling Resistance
Once you know what your boundaries are and why you hold them, how do you handle resistance from others in your life?
