Why I Coach, Especially Now

A hand holding out a heart made of lights.

There is not just one reason I coach, there are many.  I feel called to coach, I improve the world by helping others to see their greatness, live into their own purpose, and to lead in ways that inspire.  It is extremely fulfilling work and I am awed by what my clients are able to accomplish.  A surprise benefit is that I learn a lot from my clients. I learn about different industries, the different ways that people approach things, and different ways of seeing the same events.

I coach because it’s fun, because it uses my gifts and talents, and because I get to have deep, meaningful conversations with one person at a time. I coach because I believe in personal development and lifelong education. I believe that we have the ability to learn and grow throughout our lives and that we can continuously improve.

I believe that the metric for improvement is unique to every individual and that we are all working towards being our best selves. Everyone’s best looks and feels different, and that is the beauty of it all. If we all had the same gifts and talents, there would be very little innovation.  We need farmers, doctors, teachers, parents, grocery workers, truck drivers, mental health professionals, and coaches.  We as a people need everyone to do their part.

It is only when we honor the beauty of our interconnectedness that we can see how valuable each person is individually and how much each is needed.

One of the great joys of my life is seeing people realize how powerful they are and that they really are in control of their own choices. People are trained to be nice, to be quiet, and that “this is how it is.” This is especially the case for women.  It’s not true though. While a few people do benefit from the majority of people believing they are not cut out to lead or that they have no power, humankind as a whole does not. What happens to one of us, happens to all of us. We are all interconnected and we need everyone to bring their unique gifts into the fold.

Power can be used to motivate and inspire or to intimidate.  Power is simply the ability to affect change within oneself or in others and it is needed in order to lead. Everyone is a leader either by default or by choice.

The best leaders lead others through love, inspiration, motivation, and kindness.

This kind of leadership in organizations, in homes, and inside each human is important at all times, but especially now.  I did not expect to be building a coaching practice in the middle of a pandemic but here we are. People right now are scared, uncertain, and in some cases unmoored. I happen to be uniquely talented, trained, and positioned to help leaders develop and adapt in these circumstances.

I see it as my purpose to help people reclaim their power, their passion, and their options.

Though you cannot change what is happening right now, you can choose how you respond.  So, how do you want to respond today and over the next several months?  Who do you believe yourself to be? What do you feel called to do in this world?

I’ll admit that my style and vision are not for everyone but if you believe deeply that you are made to do more in this world, if you are willing to be pushed a little and stretched out of your comfort zone in order to fully stand in your power, I would love to work with you. We need you, especially now. Are you ready to change your world?
